Welcome to the blog of Members’ Forum 2017.

CIOB Publishes Annual Review & Accounts 2015

2015 saw the introduction of the most significant change in our membership structure for 20 years. Within those 12 months we attracted 3,000 new members with a further 140 on their way to Chartered membership, the highest for a number of years.

At this year’s Members Forum we will be talking more about our plans for an Academy, but to help deliver the support learners will need, and to build on our presence in the capital, we moved to a new office in Kingsway, London. Like our Bracknell head office Kingsway has also achieved a SKA gold rating for its refurbishment.

We welcomed our first Training Partnerships in Australia and China in 2015. Overall the scheme which offers bespoke training advice and support to employers grew by 25%. New rules for Chartered Building Companies and Consultancies were also implemented with advice from the industry. These have strengthened the scheme, raising its standards and ensuring that CBCs remain a kite mark of excellence and a corporate membership scheme of choice.

With members insight we developed a number of important reports. Our Modern Slavery: Dark Side of Construction publication, launched at last year’s Members Forum in Cambridge, centred on an all-encompassing approach to the issue of Modern Slavery, with contributions from government, industry and NGOs. Reports on Migration in the UK Construction Industry and the Value of Professionalism gave construction managers a voice on the big issues.

Our Construction Manager of the Year Awards continues to celebrate the best in construction. In 2015 Dennis Wilson from Lend Lease, earned the coveted title for his standout performance on the £48million National Theatre rebuild and refurbishment. We received 163 entries from 18 different countries for our International Innovation and Research Awards and supported 46 individuals through our scholarships. 40 teams from across the globe competed in the 2015 Global Student Challenge, won by the Saltire Team from Glasgow Caledonian University.
