Welcome to the blog of Members’ Forum 2018.
Members’ Forum week 2017
Here in Wales we are a very busy preparing for the Members’ Forum in June.
Between June 18 and June 22 there are many events taking place in Cardiff and we cannot wait to welcome visitors and guests from far afield and closer to home to the capital city of Wales and one of the most exciting and up and coming cities in the world!
While the Members’ Forum is being organised centrally by the very capable team at HQ, here in Wales we are helping to ensure the week goes as smoothly as possible. To give a little context, we have in Wales a small team that is supported by a very active Hub, led by our exceptional chairman Gareth John FCIOB. Our small employed team is made up of myself (new to post since January 2017), the industry-respected Laura Clarke (Development Manager Wales) and our marvellous Wales Members’ Secretary, Vicky Cox.
For many, the Member’s Forum week is one of the highlights in the calendar and a time when much of the global industry’s eyes and attention are on what happens during this time. We are looking forward to Wales delivering a great week!
In addition to the Members’ Forum exciting agenda, we have also helped plan a number of other events to compliment the week. We have the great honour and privilege to welcome the First Minister of Wales, the Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM (Assembly Member) to deliver a keynote speech at our Annual Conference during the week. This speech will be delivered exactly two weeks after the General Election in the UK when the electorate will decide who will be the next governing party in the UK and who will be the next Prime Minister, so a speech that is sure to be full of policy direction.
We will be very pleased to take of Members’ Forum delegation to a very special reception that is being hosted for the CIOB at the Welsh Assembly by the Minister for Skills and Science in Wales, Julie James AM. Already, this event is being attended by a capacity list of guests including some leading politicians, industry leaders and guests from around the world. The Welsh Assembly building itself (a Richard Rogers design) has already become an iconic building in Wales and sits in the heart of Cardiff Bay which has undergone a multi-billion pound regeneration in the last few decades to become a destination landmark in the UK.
The Coal Exchange building in Cardiff will host our Presidential Dinner during Members’ Forum week and the CIOB event will be one of the first events to take place in this historic building since its redevelopment and reopening in 2017. Built in the 1880’s, the building played an important role in the industrial dominance of Cardiff of in 19th century and become the first place in the world to issue a £1million cheque!
Not only all this, but we also have a very special cultural event planned for those attending.
It’s a really exciting time to be part of the CIOB and it is also an incredibly exciting time to be based in Wales and combining the two is sure to be a recipe for success for a remarkable Members’ Forum to be remembered for many years to come!
Diolch yn fawr / thank you,
CIOB Policy Officer Cymru / Wales
